Excuses for the Truth
Linking Solidarity
1998, Linking Solidariy:
This manual has been written to gather practical information and experiences on the struggle against disappearances. The manual is primarily intended for the committees of relatives of 'disappeared' persons, but it may also be useful for (human rights) organizations which deal with relatives of 'disappeared' persons in other ways. This manual consists of 14 chapters on several topics (forensic medicine, memorial, Truth and reconciliation etc.) which handle the main aspects of Enforced Disappearances. It gives the reader an overall and detailed view of the issue, which makes this manual a real source of informal on enforced disappearances.
Abstract:
All over the world one can find organisations, institutions and individuals engaged in the struggle against the phenomenon 'disappearances'. The committees of relatives of 'disappeared' persons deserve very special attention. Partly on the basis of their personal commitment, these organisations can be very effective both in and outside their own countries. They are invaluable for the disclosure of human rights violations from the past. In this way, they contribute to avoiding impunity and crimes of this nature.
