Abstract:
The UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (UNWGEID) and international human rights NGOs regularly receive information on cases of enforced disappearances from dozens of countries around the world. However, if one takes a closer look at the figures it becomes clear that Africa is hardly mentioned, despite the fact that this region is prone to many wars and internal conflicts which lead to gross human rights violations. There seems to be an apparent underreporting of disappearance cases from Africa.
