| Enforced disappearances have been happening in Iraq since the 70s when Sadam Hussein became president through a coup. Most cases reported to the working group happened in 1988 during the operation Anfal by the government of destruction against Iraqi Kurdistan. Currently enforced disappearances are being used in the context of internal conflicts in the country and war on terror. Actors of enforced disappearances are militias, Iraqi police, US forces and Al Qaeda. |
