Context
Enforced disappearances have been caused in the context of the 10 year civil war between Maoist insurgents and government security forces, which ended in 2006. The conflict broke out in February 1996, after leaders of the Maoist faction of the Communist Party of Nepal presented the government with a forty-point list of demands, including the call for a secular republican state and a constituent assembly to which the government failed to responde.
