AFAD commemorats its 10th anniversary

AFAD celebrates its 10th anniversary with a busy programme of activities attended by all the member-organizations of the Federation, representatives from the Latin American Federation of Associations of Relatives of Disappeared-Detainees (FEDEFAM), We Remember-Belarus and the May 18 Foundation of South Korea

The celebrations started on the 30th of May with a Forum on the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance which was attended by some 200 people from the families of the disappeared, the NGO community, some members of the diplomatic community, some government agencies, the Supreme Court and the academe.

The forum was followed by a three-day training on the use of the UN Human Rights Council conducted by Atty. Cecilia Jimenez.  It was concluded with a plan of action vis-a-vis lobbying for the Convention's immediate entry into force.

On the 4th of June AFAD will hold two activities,  the launching of AFAD's online Resource Center and the launching of its music video, " Desaparecidos" and a Solidarity Dinner with friends of AFAD from the diplomatic community, the NGO community, representatives of government agencies and representatives of families of the disappeared.    

On the anniversary night, AFAD will also award the winners of its poster-making and essay-writing contests.
