Advanced Conflict Transformation Course

Coalition for Peace in Africa (COPA) runs its annual four week training on Advanced Conflict Transformation for English speakers.

The Advanced Conflic Transformation training will cover in details the following four main thematic areas:

• Conflict overview
• Understanding Conflict
• Building Sustainable peace
• The way forward for peace

The course is particularly relevant to the following groups:

• Development and relief workers operating in contexts of conflict and violence in Africa.
• NGOs wanting to develop their programme beyond development and emergency relief to include advocacy, lobbying, peace building and reconciliation.
• Peace and justice workers including those from religious institutions
• Human rights workers interested in Conflict Transformation.
• Those wanting to explore African cultural mechanisms for peace making.

Four facilitators with experience in conflict transformation on the continent and internationally will facilitate the course. The facilitators will take a participatory approach, emphasising on experiential learning. In addition to the full-time tutors, resource specialists from external institutions will conduct sessions on particular topics.

The training charges are US$3500 to cover tuition, resource materials, food, accommodation (SHARED BY TWO) and visits to historic sites in South Africa. Charges relating to travel, visa and Yellow Fever Vaccination are the responsibility of individual participants. Those wishing to stay in single rooms will be required to add $30 per day to cover the extra expenses.
