The former governor of Sucre, Salvador Arana, was sentenced to highest punishment provided by the Colombian legal system, 40 years of imprisonment, for the enforced disappearance and murder of a former mayor and his ties to the paramilitaries. This sentence imposed by the Supreme Court the former governor of Sucre will be under the scrutiny of the International Criminal Court.
