Eritrea: Detentions without trial and enforced disappearances

The articles 'Controversies on EU’s country strategy paper for Eritrea' and 'The Tragedy of fighter Meriam Hagos: Disappeared in the “Eritrean Way”' both published earlier this year, describe the human rights situation that Eritrean citizens are experiencing. According to Daniel R. Mekonnen, author of one of these articles, the "conservative estimates indicate that there are currently more than 20,000 victims of detention without trial and enforced disappearance in the country", while the UNWGEID has only been reported 54 cases.
