On behalf of the French Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate, Ms Joëlle Garriaud-Maylam presented a report on the law for the ratification of the Convention against Enforced Disappearances in France. The report of 20 pages contains a small history of the phenomenon of enforced disappearances, a history of the process leading up to the adoption of the Convention and a small impact study of the Convention on national legislation.

The project of law leading to the ratification of the Convention will be put to a simplified vote in the Senate on the 8th of July 2008, after it was already adopted by the Assemblée Nationale on the 12th of June. It is now left to President to ratify the Convention.
