Nigeria and Mexico: new reports on enforced disappearances and other crimes by Amnesty International

Amnesty International reports on the situation in Mexico and Nigeria on enforced disappearances and other human rights violations.

About Mexico, Amnesty International reports that in the City of Juarez the State Commission of Human Rights received 22 complaints for enforced disappearances. In fact AI believes that these figures do not reflect the true number of cases, and reality is much worse. Mexico has ratified both the Interamerican Convention against enforced disappearances and the International Convention against enforced disappearances, that explicitly prohibit this crime. In the case of Nigeria Amnesty International reports that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is responsible for hundreds of extrajudicial executions, other unlawful killings and enforced disappearances every year. The majority of cases go uninvestigated and unpunished. The families of the victims usually have no recourse to justice or redress. Many do not even get to find out what exactly happened to their loved ones. Continue reading the report.
