Peru: Doris Caqui nominated as social leader
The Human Rights Defender, and wife of a victim of enforced disappearance Doris Caqui Calixto has been nominated for the condecoration Women Order of Merit 2009
The Award of Order of Merit for Women 2009 is an initiative of the Peruvian Ministry of Women and Social Development. This award is given to recognize women with an outstanding performance in their social commitment for the defence and promotion of equal opportunities between women and men at a national level.
Doris Caqui Calixto has been nominated for this price in the category of Social Work. Doris has dedicated her life to the promotion of human rights in Peru. In her particular situation Doris has demanded truth and justice for the disappearance of her husband Teofilo Rimac Capcha. In her personal fight she has helped many others family members in similar situation, to publicly denounce the crimes committed to their loved ones. He has become an influential personality in the public policy domain in Peru.
The decision of the Jury will be made public on the 26th of Februay.
