Urgent Action Kashmir: Mr. Parvez Imroz arrested among four other persons by police at Bandipora
Lawyer and President of the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), Parvez Imroz, has been arrested among several local volunteers by the police in front of the media today, only a few hours ago, in the town of Bandipora. Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) feels disturbed and extremely anxious on the arrest/detention of its President Adv. Parvez Imroz who along with a team of 50 volunteers, some of them journalists, human rights activists, trade union activists from both Kashmir and outside, were monitoring the 1st phase of Jammu and Kashmir State Legislative Assembly Election.
JKCCS along with civil society groups from various parts of India monitored the last Assembly Elections of 2002 and the parliamentary elections 2004.
Adv. Parvez Imroz along with two local volunteers from Bandipora namely Firdous Ahmed Sofi and Ajaz Ahmed Mir were arrested at 12:30 noon today when they reached a spot where protest demonstrations were already going on. Adv. Imroz and his two associates were ruthlessly beaten up by police infront of the media men and later taken to Police Station Bandipora.
